Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) July 3, 2008 -- Tikanchay Imports, LLC, is known for its beautiful handmade sterling silver jewelry, but what most people don't know is that Tikanchay also gives back to the artisan community.
In addition to importing high quality sterling silver jewelry directly from artisan family workshops in Peru and making donations to artisan schools teaching the range of traditions from silver work to clay pendants, the company made a donation to the Connecticut Peruvian Relief Fund after the earthquake that shook the country on August 15, 2007. The President of the Relief Fund recently contacted the owners of Tikanchay with news of how their donation is being put to use in Peru. An investment is being made in a small village, Catahuasi, located in the province of Yauyus several hours outside of Lima at the foot of the Andes. Slowly recovering from the damage inflicted by the earthquake and in need of infrastructure repair, the village will benefit from The Relief Fund's commitment to provide ongoing support and investment. Tikanchay is happy to have participated in this worthy cause.
"We choose artisan families carefully and work intimately with them to bring our customers the finest in materials, design, and craftsmanship. For example, our pearl dangle earrings were created for us by an artisan family located in a little town outside of Lima," says Elaine Rojas.
Tikanchay often provides the materials and capital necessary for small artisan families, and in particular women artisans so that they can continue these ancient traditions and make a living from the sale of their work at the same time. Eventually, Tikanchay hopes to buy all its jewelry from these small artisan families, but in the meantime, through regular donations and buying trips, Tikanchay is able to encourage and support the entire Peruvian artisan community.
"We think the expression, 'Do Good, Look Good, Feel Good' expresses beautifully the shopping experience at Tikanchay. Supporting the artisan community, knowing your money is spent in a socially conscious fashion, and wearing beautiful jewelry is a dynamic combination," said Rojas.
Tikanchay Imports is committed to not only bringing its customers high quality sterling silver jewelry, but also to giving back to the Peruvian artisans. Every piece is purchased from an artisan family, and is a handmade, unique piece of art that upholds ancient traditions.

Discover The Ancient Art Of Shaolin Kung Fu
The first time I saw Shaolin Kung fu techniques was while watching a martial arts movie. I loved the style of martial arts so much, that I watched the second movie and fell totally in love. There was something so riveting about watching the punches, kicks and jumps. Even though it was Hong Kong Hollywood, it looked so much more real than most martial arts you see. I?ve watched a lot of martial arts movies in my day. In fact, they?re actually my favorite type of movie. Recently I saw Jet Li in Fearless. Though his style in that movie was wing chun.

The Art Of Perfume Notes - What Are They?
When people hear the word 'notes' they often say "yeah those are the things that make up a song." Sure this is true, but did you know that notes are also used to describe the various scents of a fragrance? Most people aren't even aware that there is more than one aroma involved in perfume or mens cologne.
